challenge: inspired by Tim's 12 Tags

Instead of 12 tags of Christmas this week, Tim Holtz has treated us to a new tag every month in 2012. You can see the archives of his Christmas tags on his blog by year. This week’s challenge here at Simon Says Stamp & Show is to find inspiration in one of Tim's past tags - from any year!

Whether it is a design, technique, or other idea - and whether you incorporate your idea onto an ATC, card, tag, scrapbook page, or other item - just have some creative fun and get into the 12 tags spirit! Our team is definitely in the spirit - check out their creations.

When Sandra Mouwen looked through all Tim's christmas tags, she had so much inspiration to choose from for her own christmas tag.
Last year was my first year of doing the 12 tags of Christmas and I had the best time ever! Everyday when I woke up, I had to look at the new tag. Thought about it all day and raced home from work to make it. It was such a wonderful rush and learned so much! My inspiration for this tag is day 1 of 2009, because I'm so mesmerized by the beautiful background with the Rock Candy Crackle Paint. For my version I did it in my Christmas home decor colors, which are lime, black, gold and a little bit of silver. So I used Shabby Shutter, Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive Distress ink for the background. The Snowflakes are stamped with Archival Jet Black ink. The reindeer and holly are covered with Rock Candy Dry Glitter which is colored with Pitch Black, Lettuce and Citrus Alcohol Ink.

Dan's holiday flatware pouches were inspired by Tim's day 5 Christmas tag from 2009.
I watched a video online the other day on how to fold a cloth napkin to make a flatware pouch to put at each place setting on the holiday table. Now, I don't know about your family, but mine just aren't fancy enough for cloth napkins (to tell the truth a paper napkin is a stretch most of the time!), so I had this idea for a cardstock pouch to hold flatware and a paper napkin. The pouches were made from a sheet of the Seasonal Paper Stack. Tim's tag included a tree ornament decorated with a Santa face and that was my inspiration here. The Santas came from the Holiday Wishes, Mini Holidays 2 and Santa's Wish stamp sets and the ribbon strips were cut from the Cosmo Cricket Dear Mr. Claus Collage Kit.

Tracy was inspired by Tim's 12 tags of 2012 the month of February to create her seasonal card.
Tim's tag for February inspired me the most as I love the dabber resist technique, used here with the background stamp from the Seasons Silhouettes stamp set along with snowcap Paint Dabber. I also love hearts so the dimensional heart was also perfect to add to my seasonal card, cut using the Mini Heart die. I always like to add my own twist on things with my two dimensional reindeer cut using the Reindeer Flight die. Another Christmas card ticked off the list!

Candy always loved Tim's 12 Tags of Christmas.  One of the many inspirations she used on this tag was Tim's porcelain numbers technique he debuted on Tim's Christmas Tag ~ Day 5, 2010.
I titled this very nostalgic #10 large manila tag "The Night Before Christmas".  From Tim's Vintage Santa at the top to the faux porcelain "25" at the bottom, this tag inspires visions of sugar plums! Mini poinsettias encircle Santa's head as he softly lays his finger aside of his nose.  The embossed stocking dangles freely from the scallop mantle. Also dangling from the mantle is an alcohol inked facet laying quietly against the fired brick/festive berries inked bricks of the chimney.  There are five of some of my favorite Tim techniques used on this tag.  Can you spot them?

Ashli was inspired to create a Christmas banner full of texture based upon Tim's treatment of tissue paper in his May 2012 Tag.
When I saw Tim's tag from May of this year, I was immediately inspired by his use of stitching on tissue paper. I just love the delicate texture this gives! To create my Christmas banner, I stitched lines down the tissue paper and then cut in between the stitching to create a chenille-like texture. Some Basic Grey papers die cut into circles were then stitched to form a garland. These colorful circles were attached to my little chenille pennants. A bit of Doodle TwineStudio Calico Snowflakes, and hand written letters finish off this holiday decor piece.

Trace is a huge fan of Tim Holtz, and used his June 2012 tag for her inspiration.
So I don't think I am the only one who would say Tim Holtz is part of my everyday life. Whether it be using product he has developed and/or being inspired by his many awesome projects; he is always present. For my tag I was inspired by his June 2012 tag, and the use of the metal leafs from his Idea-ology Foliage collection. These metal leaf and flower embellishments work so well with any colour, and also pair so well with his idea-ology Adornments that I attached to the tag top with the help of the Idea-ology Wire Pins. Another inspiration of Tim's I always seem to use; is how he custom dyes his Idea-ology Crinkle Ribbon Trim to match his project. I used Tim Holtz Distress Stains in colours Barn Door and Fired Brick and they match the other elements of my card perfectly.

Tim's 12 tags of Christmas has been such a fun part of Anna-Karin's Decembers since he started with the tags, endless inspiration to be found:
I had a hard time choosing what to do for my project, all of Tim's tags are so full of inspiration.  I wanted to create a frosty tag with glitter and joy and was particularly inspired by this and this tag. The background is stamped with the Hero Arts Starry Sky and covered in tissue paper. I die cut the snowman from grungeboard, painted with Rock Candy crackle paint, and when dry it was coloured with Broken China and the new Brushed Pewter Distress Stain. The tab and tag were also coloured with Brushed Pewter, so quick and effective.

Terry really likes Tim's tags and and the techniques he uses, and she was inspired by Tim's Tags 4 and 12 from 2012.
I really like the Techniques that Tim Holtz has used on his tags, but I decided to work with the Embossing Technique for these tags. I worked with the Christmas Backgrounds and Borders and played around with the Townscape Houses on the Edge Die. The background was made with the embossing folder from Tim Holtz and I used the white embossing powder as well. I even made sure that there was a little snow at the bottom of the first one, because what is Christmas without snow?  The Christmas Bulb was fun to make too, used Distress Stain and filled up the little holes with Stickles to give it a shiny look.

Suzz's tag was inspired by Tim's tag 12 from last year
I went back and spent time meandering through the beautiful tags from last year and tag twelve jumped out at me.  I love the soft icy blues on Tim's tag and the fragment doll with wing  inspired me to think of angels. My tag started with a layer of tissue tape and I added color with a coat of white acrylic paint and blue dye ink.  My stamped angel is the La Blanche Cherub, I love her pensive expression.  I added a few flourishes in the background for movement. I finished the tag off with some of the Melissa Frances tinsel and Ideology Baubles.  This tag will be used on a Christmas package of a dear friend.

Sarah took her inky inspiration from Mr. Tims seventh tag from 2011.
A while back I was playing around with ideas of how to use up all those tags we create and came up with a tag bag! Just take two folded tags, a little Kraft Glassine Paper and lots of Christmas embellishments! When I was sifting through my papers, I suddenly thought that Tim's Retro Paper Stash was actually quite festive in colour and I thought it would be the perfect background design with just a little festive stamping using Tim's Joyful Song Set. I love the effect of Alcohol Inks on Kraft Glassine and who knew a Hitch Fastener would make such a handy catch? Ideal for any time of the year but definitely great for Christmas when you want to wrap up that
'special little something..." Diamond earrings maybe?

I (May) went back to day 10 in 2009 and was inspired to cover a tag and grungeboard with some foil and get frosty.
I always love using my snowman die, and when combined with my favorite winter stamp, some stickersdistress stickles, and other assorted goodies I crafted myself a tag ready to top a holiday package! I loved how easy this foil technique was, and the metallic glimmer that shows through the paint and glitter that I applied to the background. The snowman just pops so great thanks to this technique, and I will definitely be pulling this simple idea out for future projects as well. I had such fun time with this technique, and I have a feeling I'll be revisiting the 12 tags archives for more inspiration in the future too!
