Challenge: Quotable

From your favorite movie lines to a sentiment on a stamp you keep meaning to use more, an inspirational quote to something a family member is always saying - this week we challenge you to use a quote in your craft project! It could be funny or heartfelt, serious or silly, long or short. Whether you are inspired to make a card or an inspirational canvas or anything in between - we invite you to join the challenge this week.

Our design team was inspired in many ways, and from a wide variety of sources.

Anna-Karin loves using quotes in her projects and what better place for them than on the cover of an altered notebook.
I made an altered notebook as a gift to a friend, featuring two of my favourite quotes from Tim Holtz products, one being a stamp and the other a die cut. The two fit well together, and even more so in combination with the Vintage Globe. I love the new Cameo Frame die and used it to die cut a focal panel from red kraft-core cardstock. The Sized Ovals dies fit perfectly inside so you can cut out a window, and I was happy to discover that the Book Covers texture fades also coordinates with the die. The book was covered in tissue wrap and painted to give it a worn and travelled appearance. I know my friend is going to love the little detail of the woman standing on top of the world.

One simple sentence was Candy's inspiration for this lovely vintage style card.
"Live your beliefs and you can turn the world around." What a beautiful sentiment from Artistic Outposts' Typography stamp set and it inspired me to create this vintage style card.  In keeping with the idea of global peace, I decided to use the beautiful map images of 7 Gypsies Global 8x8 paper pad as my background.  The Mini Baroque cut from Grungeboard, perfectly showcases the sentiment embossed with Black Embossing Powder.  Sharing the card front is Tim Holtz' Mini Vintage Globe colorized with Dylusions London Blue and Vibrant Turquoise Ink Sprays. The continents are given realistic terrain from Wendy Vecchi's White Embossing Paste that has been colored with Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs Distress Inks.

I (May) was moved by a quote I heard on the TV show Heroes.
This Tim Holtz gentleman seemed the perfect choice for this small mixed media canvas piece. I wanted to play with color and really make it a grungy mess, while at the same time I wanted to make our gentleman advisor more crisp and clean looking. After all - he is advising a hero in training and needs to look the part. I love how the piece turned out - and that I now have a canvas hanging on my wall inspiring me to continue on my journey, and keep up the hard work!

Trace tries to live her life by this famous quote.
I just LOVE this saying by Abraham Lincoln! It is such a good reminder to live for today and enjoy it to the fullest! I used my Copics on Neenah paper to create the quote banner, and then glued it down with Studio Multi-Medium Matte. Playing with my Dylusions Art Journal, my Dylusions stencils, and Dylusions Ink Sprays sure makes me happy; and being happy I am sure adds years to one's life!

Ashli's welcomed the opportunity to scrap this amusing phrase that her father always says.
"Wherever You Go, There You are..." So silly, yet so true! My dad has always said this and we still say it to this day. He says he heard it once from a comedian, but to me, it is his. This week's theme was the perfect excuse to scrap this phrase along with this sweet picture of him and my daughter. After fussy cutting some Studio Calico map paper, I simply layered up some SMASH and Dear Lizzy elements. Then, I doodled the quote over and over again for some texture before adding my favorite Thickers to make up this quote.

Sarah was asked to create a piece to celebrate a friend's 40th wedding anniversary this week.
"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...." This is an all time favourite poem of mine and it was just perfect for the theme of my printer's tray. Every box is filled with a little something that reflects the years of love and commitment in a marriage. I went to town with Idea-ology, Tall Text stamping and Chit Chat words to create a keepsake that will hopefully give my friends a reminder of their love for many years to come.

If you ever find a magazine or newspaper with a part cut out of it or even a whole page torn from it, chances are Anita was the culprit. She is an avid quote collector.
I love quotes, heart felt sayings, thought provoking phrases, and stamp sets that contain them. That is a big reason why I love Wendy Vecchi's stamp sets from Stamper's Anonymous. Not only do they have great images, but they always contain great phrases or quotes, and I thought this one from her new Sunshine & Art set was perfect to celebrate the delights of the awakenings of the Spring Season on this canvas. Her Embossing Paste made her Stenciled For Art Wildflower extra special as well. I used the delicious Distress Paint in a variety of different ways on this canvas, and I love the results.

Sandra Mouwen loves to experience new things, like learning this technique.
It's such a true saying from Aldous Huxley. You need to think and act on what happens to and with you. Life is a really great gift and we need to embrace the chance we get with it. I used a small 4 x 4 canvas for my project. I added lots of texture, with Tim Holtz Trimmings and Ball Chain, and with Modeling Paste and the Punchinella Stencil. I adhered everything with Multi Medium Matte and covered it all in Gesso when it was dry. Then it was time for the fun part, spraying with the Color Wash Sprays to give it some color.

Suzz selected one of her favorite quotes from Emily Dickinson as her inspiration this week.
Emily Dickinson is one of my favorite poets. I love this quote from her and am pleased that is part of the Artistic Outpost Quote and Quotables plate.  I needed a bird and a nest to go along with one of my favorite quotes.  I created a beautiful nest of flowers using the Prima flowers.  The Graphic 45 Secret Garden papers created my background and my bird.

This week Dan was inspired by one of his favourite quotes about art.
I had a couple of quotes about art bouncing around in my head this week and I ended up going for "Art does not have to be pretty", one of my favourites.  I'll keep the other quote to myself for now, you never know, it might pop up on my blog in another piece some time soon!  This started out as a cheap mirror, basically an 11x11 piece of white wood with a 4" mirror tile in the centre.  Needless to say, I've drawn on several stamps and stamp sets for this piece, including Wendy Vecchi's Kiss Me, Dy Reaveley's Around the Edge, Dina Wakley's Grungy Silhouette and Tim Holtz's Royal Script, Countdown and for the quote lettering, the Remnants set.

Tracy has been inspired by birds this week to create a nature inspired card.
I love March, it's the start of the gardening season for me, I love my garden and everything that entails, including the wildlife, and birds are a must in my garden and I encourage them to visit as much as possible, a garden is not complete without birds. The Birds Of A Feather stamp set from Artistic Outpost was the perfect starting point for me, a beautiful image and perfect for stamping onto calico. The quote I used is one of my all time favourites from the Quotes and Quotables stamp sets from Artistic Outpost and perfect for my focal image. I wanted a real natural feel to this card and I think the muted tones showcase that beautifully.
